COMMUNITY PLAY SPACE

Please note, we moved to our new location, 1919 Main Street (6A), West Barnstable in June and renovations on the 75-year-old building began July 1st. During the summer, the Outdoor Play Space served as our “community play space” for our family programs each Saturday 10:00-1:00 while renovations took place at the new site. When renovations are complete at the new location, new hours expanded will be posted. Please follow our Events page and Facebook posts. Watch for photos of our new Community Play Space development at our new location on Facebook.

Our Community Play Space at our new site will incorporate and expand upon the features present at our previous location, 1663 Main Street in West Barnstable at the First Lutheran Church (June 2019-June 2025). The Community Play Space at the church location included a playroom and annex (see descriptions below), where visitors could explore and play FREE of charge with a suggested donation of $5.00 per family. The Community Play Space and Toy Library were both open Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Appointments can also be made for other times for use of the Community Play Space for a play group, meeting, supervised visit, or workshop. For more information, contact us at (508) 648-3227 or info@capecodtoylibrary.org.

Visit and enjoy the fun, educational play experiences with your children!

The Annex Play Space expanded our indoor play space by offering programmatic play materials in an adjacent hallway and classroom for families to enjoy. A different theme was featured each week, along with related toys and play resources, as well as sensory, creative arts, and science exploratory materials, and books to foster learning through play and family engagement experiences. Our Child Development Play Specialist supports children’s and families’ play experiences during their visit.

The Playroom features a play kitchen and market, dress-up wardrobe, puppet theater, doll house, rocket, and car garage, as well as building construction toys, puzzles and games, and children’s picture books to enjoy during your visit.

Our Resource Library includes more than 300 books on child development and play, parenting, neurodivergent children, multi-cultural education, as well as read-aloud reference books and art / science / math resource books. Parents and other caregivers can peruse these materials while their children play or borrow them with a Play Pass Membership.

Play Space Programs

“Family Play Days” were also offered in the First Lutheran Church’s 1,300-square-foot Fellowship Hall when staffing, space, and sponsorships made it possible. This provided expanded space for play-learning and family-engagement experiences, with additional play and creative arts materials, and early-childhood educators.
